Public & Professional Writing | Academics. The Public and Professional Writing major allows students to undertake rigorous intellectual work that will deepen their engagement with writing as a form of social action and professional exchange that has consequences in the world. The major includes courses for those who are interested in advocacy English – Professional and Public Writing. The English-Professional and Public Writing track will provide you with key skills for writing in various fields such as business, publishing, education, law or the non-profit sector. You’ll study rhetoric and argumentation at an advanced level, and take at least one advanced course in linguistics Public & Professional Writing Major. Writing Studies. Employers want to hire people with excellent written communication skills. Because all professional fields require some form of writing, our major in Public and Professional Writing PPW will prepare you to become a strategic, flexible public and professional writing. Additionally, our minor in Public and Professional Writing is the perfect complement to any major, public and professional writing.

In both programs, you will learn about the various forms of writing you are likely to encounter in the public and professional writing and how to adapt your writing for different audiences and purposes. You will also compile a portfolio of work that you can show to prospective employers.

The Public and Professional Writing PPW Major and Minor focus on writing that serves professional goals or the public interest or both. We invite students from across the university to focus on writing as a way to develop the critical writing, learning, and thinking skills necessary to all aspects of professional life.
